DMK unveils manifesto countering NDA policies

CHENNAI: Spiraling a narrative around its firm objection over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), powers of the governor, NEET implementation, and promising statehood for Puducherry, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced its manifesto along with declaring a list of candidates who will be contesting for the Loksabha polls.

Addressing the party office bearers and cadres after releasing the party manifesto, Chief Minister Stalin said, “It is the DMK which makes the manifesto before elections and continues to do what we say, this is what our leaders taught us. Schemes that were implemented under the Dravidian model for the betterment of Tamil Nadu will be taken across India.”

“We (I.N.D.I.A. alliance) are sure to come to power at the centre, and that is why we have given these promises,” asserted MK Stalin, when asked whether DMK makes these promises in its capacity or that of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.

However, the BJP and allies of the NDA criticised the manifesto, calling it a ‘fake manifesto’ purely for the sake of appeasement. “I see the DMK election manifesto as a failure. Have they (DMK government) decreased petrol and diesel prices in Tamil Nadu as the Puducherry Government did it in their state?”

The manifesto reiterated the DMK’s assertion that it will not implement the Citizenship Amendment rules and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The DMK has also promised statehood for Puducherry, which is currently a Union Territory. As of now, the Puducherry Union Territory has a legislative assembly with 30 seats. All India NR Congress (AINRC) founder N Rangasamy is the Chief Minister. AINRC is an NDA ally and won the elections in 2021.

The DMK has opposed the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 in the manifesto and vowed to withdraw it. The NEP, rolled out by the Union government in July 2020, replaces the previous National Policy on Education, 1986.
